Have questions about consultations, medical evaluations, GLP-1 medications, meal replacements, labs, insurance, or what to expect? Start here.
These FAQs cover the most common questions about our physician-directed medical weight loss programs and how we help patients find the right level of support.
Getting started
These questions cover the first steps, including your consultation, medical evaluation, and visit rhythm.
Yes. Your consultation will be with one of our wellness coordinators. We begin with a brief complimentary consultation to learn about your goals and recommend the best plan for you.
Each program begins with a thorough medical evaluation with Dr. Conley, designed to assess your current health and establish a personalized baseline. This may include a physical exam, EKG, laboratory testing, and body composition analysis.
Patients start with a structured 3-month program, with visits scheduled every two weeks to ensure consistent progress and support. The key is consistent monitoring and accountability so we can adjust your plan as your body responds.

Rochester Medical Weight Loss is built around in-person medical guidance, individualized plans, and ongoing accountability.
Yes. Rochester Medical Weight Loss is designed as an in-person practice, where patients work closely with Dr. Conley and our nursing and wellness team. While virtual visits can be accommodated when necessary, in-person care is preferred to ensure the highest level of support and outcomes.
No. When appropriate, medication may be incorporated as one component of a comprehensive plan — never the entire solution. Our approach also includes nutrition education, whole-food meal planning, meal replacement options, progress tracking, and ongoing accountability.
No. Some patients choose a whole-food approach, others incorporate partial or full meal replacements for added structure, and many use a combination. Each plan is individualized based on what is realistic and sustainable for you.
When used, meal replacements can be a valuable tool — they are convenient, eliminate the need for tracking or calculations, and provide balanced macronutrition. However, they’re simply a tool, not a requirement, and not everyone chooses to use them.
Medications
Medication may be part of a comprehensive medical weight loss plan, but it is not treated as a one-size-fits-all quick fix.
When appropriate, Dr. Conley may prescribe FDA-approved medications, including GLP-1 options, as part of a comprehensive medical weight loss plan. Medication selection is individualized based on your medical history, laboratory results, goals, and safety considerations.
No. Medication is considered when appropriate and beneficial, as part of an individualized plan — not a one-size-fits-all solution.
Safety + coordination
Weight loss is connected to health, labs, medications, metabolism, and long-term care. That’s why we take a medical approach.
Because weight loss is medical. Laboratory testing and screening help us keep treatment safe and personalized, and allow us to identify metabolic or nutritional factors that may be affecting your progress.
Yes. We are not a substitute for a primary care physician. You should continue regular care with your PCP.
When needed, we can collaborate with your physician or surgeon, supporting smooth continuity of care.
Cost + payment
Here are the most common questions about payment and reimbursement options.
While we do not accept insurance directly, some patients may be eligible for reimbursement depending on their individual coverage. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider to determine whether bariatric medical visits are included in your plan.
Yes — many patients use HSA/FSA funds. Restrictions can vary by plan.
